Spyware is a fact of life these days, here's how to deal with it.
Spyware are programs that run on your computer, in the background, without you even knowing. These programs read information off of your computer and send it back to a central database where it is usually used for market research. Not only does this jeopardize your privacy, but the programs can be memory hogs, slowing down your computer considerably.
Spyware can be hidden in almost anything you download off the Internet, including Casino software (potentially, although I haven't found any from mainstream casinos). It is not a threat to you as long as it is dealt with quickly and properly. If you do not have a current means of detecting and deleting spyware, I recommend downloading Ad-aware from LavaSoft. This program can be found on LavaSoft's website, www.lavasoft.de, free of charge.
Ad-aware is easy to use, just run it and click on "smart scan". It will have a look and then give you a list of suspect files, and you choose which ones to get rid of. You will usually want to remove all of them, but the Microgaming one is a useful file that stores account numbers for Microgaming software (delete it and you'll have to type them in manually - once you've found them). I have asked computer security experts, and they confirm what Microgaming told me - this is a good file that just happens to look suspicious.
Spyware is not the big monster that everyone makes out. Just get a spyware detector, and run it every few days (along with a your virus check - you are checking for viruses, aren't you?).Comments on Spyware |
